Theme and Inspiration of YSL

The meaning of theme is a unified, dominant idea and must be identified early in order to prepare and get ready for up and coming season. The meaning of inspiration comes from past and current events, celebrity influence, economics, news, art, politics, movies, music, TV show, iconic fashionable men and women, and ect. Almost anything can inspire a designer. When researching inspirations and themes for Yves St. Laurent Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Show, I was able to seek out design details such as the shape of the garments, the color stories, and the texture of the designs. The shape of the garments seemed to resemble an hour glass shape because when adding a thick waist belts it creates an hourglass figure. This collection had dark colors such as black, grey, dark green, and purple. Yves St. Laurent Fall/Winter 2012 collection seemed to be influenced by Flowers, especially the Calla lily. Georgia O’Keefe might have been an influence to this collection because a lot of the garments had a Calla lily print that resembled O’Keefe artwork. Even the silver jewelry seemed to look like a Calla Lily. This collection seems to be very classic and professional; Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn could have be an inspiration for the design of this collection. YYSL Fall/Winer 2012
