Theme and Inspiration of YSL

The meaning of theme is a unified, dominant idea and must be identified early in order to prepare and get ready for up and coming season. The meaning of inspiration comes from past and current events, celebrity influence, economics, news, art, politics, movies, music, TV show, iconic fashionable men and women, and ect. Almost anything can inspire a designer. When researching inspirations and themes for Yves St. Laurent Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Show, I was able to seek out design details such as the shape of the garments, the color stories, and the texture of the designs. The shape of the garments seemed to resemble an hour glass shape because when adding a thick waist belts it creates an hourglass figure. This collection had dark colors such as black, grey, dark green, and purple. Yves St. Laurent Fall/Winter 2012 collection seemed to be influenced by Flowers, especially the Calla lily. Georgia O’Keefe might have been an influence to this collection because a lot of the garments had a Calla lily print that resembled O’Keefe artwork. Even the silver jewelry seemed to look like a Calla Lily. This collection seems to be very classic and professional; Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn could have be an inspiration for the design of this collection. YYSL Fall/Winer 2012

Yves Saint Laurent

The fashion house that I will be researching and blogging about is Yves Saint Laurent (YSL).  Some background information about YSL is that it is a luxury fashion house founded in 1961 by designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge.  YSL is well-known for their famously recognizable classic tuxedo suit for women. Most of YSL fashion trends have become iconic. In 1999, Gucci purchased YSL brand and paid Tom Ford to create a ready to wear line. In 2002, YSL closed it illustrious couture house and Gucci took over for YSL. In March of 2012, Hedi Slimane was chosen to take over the position of Creative Director of the YSL brand. In recent month Hedi Slimane decided to drop the Y in YSL and changed the brand name to Saint Laurent. Saint Laurent held its first fashion show about three month ago, and it featured the fall and winter 2012/2013 styles. The spring 2013 show will be held in Paris, France, on the 25th of September.

Hello Fashion Fans

Hello fashion fans,

My name is Rachael Katherine Paladino and I am a fashion merchandising and retail marketing student at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. I am a junior in college and have a passion for fashion!

It all started back in eighth-grade, on weekend shopping sprees with friends, when fashion became a passion. In high school, I became extremely involved in the fashion design club. As part of the club, I constructed several recyclable dresses that provided me with experience in how a take a sketch of a design and emerge it into a final creation.  This knowledge led me to seek out a more in-depth program that could educate me as to career possibilities in the fashion industry. The summer of 2008, I attended Fashion Camp NYC at LIM, which is located in Manhattan, NY. This camp introduced me to many careers opportunity’s in the fashion industry. After my experience at Fashion Camp NYC, I was able to bring back useful information for the other future fashion designers, like myself who was part of the fashion design club at St. Peter Marian High school. When I attended JWU, I was able to find a club on campus that was involved with fashion. The club that I am currently part of is called the International Fashion Society (IFS). I am on the board as the public relation specialist.

I am creating this blog for my fashion forecasting class. I will be posting each week. I hope you enjoy reading and learning all you will need to know about fashion forecasting and the fashion industry.

Enjoy!!!
